awkward
“Allow yourself to be awkward.” – Natalie Goldberg
I have a child who hates to be a beginner at anything. He doesn’t like it if he can’t do it perfectly, and he doesn’t want to look foolish in front of anyone.
Don’t we all?
But we all have to start somewhere.
I don’t like sending out these tentative bits of writing that don’t quite do what I want them to do—or what I believe they can do. I don’t like making mistakes. I don’t like it when I look around and compare myself to others—or to a different version of myself—and don’t measure up.
So, wallowing in the awkward. I want to make it a thing. I want to make it okay to say the wrong thing, wear something not right, do something that isn’t all slick and perfect.
I want to make it okay to be human.
