2021 in review, writing edition
In 2021:
My goal was to write 10,000 words per week. Since I’m at more than 540,000 words and we’re not at the end of the year, goal achieved.
While I’ve had a daily (or near daily) writing habit for a long time, it takes me a while to actually publish something. In 2020, I didn’t publish any books at all (save an anthology, I think), but in 2021, I published two books: Boy on a Train, a coming-of-age story, and Undone, an mm romance that is part of Sarina Bowen’s World of True North. I admittedly wanted to publish more, but I under-estimated how long writing takes me. I’m happy I published those two, but I wish completed more.
Though while my goal was to actually finish work, I’ve moved a lot of writing projects along. I have one book that’s with the editor, which will get finished. I have another that I wrote during July for nanowrimo that’s a total labor of love, and then another one in November for nanowrimo—and that one has a contract so it’s a high priority. So, maybe my goal for 2022 is to get those three done and published.
I worked on some older writing projects too, with the goal of finishing them, but I still couldn’t figure out what was wrong. I needed to put them in a drawer and see if I can revisit them later. I guess that was part of my learning, too. Sometimes I just can’t force something, no matter how much I work on it and try.
I’ve kept up the blog posts throughout the year. My goal last year was to post every Wednesday and Saturday. In 2021, it looks like I forgot only once, so that’s pretty good.
I started to write about other book stuff I did (reading more than 436 ebooks alone), but I think i’ll save that for another post when I can look at what I read and see what I would recommend.
What about you? How did your year turn out compared to how you thought it would be?
