secret selves

Today, as I drove to work, I listened to a song and noticed the bassline.

Then I remembered that in college I wanted to be the chick bassist in a band. That’s one of my secret selves, as Julia Cameron puts it. One of my secret alter egos (along with wedding deejay, fwiw). One of the kinds of people I want to be, deep down.

Then I realized that there was nothing stopping me from buying a bass guitar now and figuring out how to play.

Like the way I’ve been teaching myself Swedish for the past few years, I’m sure if I really want to learn it, I will. And I’m sure there are plenty of YouTube videos teaching me exactly how to play the precise song that inspired me.

[In the middle of writing this blog post, I went and researched bass guitars. Haven’t found the right one yet, but I will.]

Sooooo this is just a little reminder that life is short and if your heart yearns to do something, go for it. There’s nothing stopping you from becoming your own secret self.
